Discover Giverny with a Local

The historic capital of Normandy was the scene of the martyrdom of Joan of Arc, convicted and then burnt at the stake in 1431 on the Old Market Place. Rouen is also known as the “Town with a Hundred Spires” thanks to jewels of religious architecture.

Visit Monet’s Garden

In his first garden at Giverny, Monet opened up the view to the horizon and felled the trees that might cast too much shade. he retained only a pair of yews flanking the start of thesandy walk.

The rest was laid out on ageometrical plan, with a small, simplified version designed by himself of a former garden “a la française”, structured by right-angled beds.

The flower beds edged with irises, one of his favourite flowers.

Monet’s House
